I have been serving in Waumba Land for almost three years now and it has helped me grow in my faith and fulfilled me in so many ways I never could have expected.
I had grown up in church as a child, but after starting a family of our own, my husband and I had struggled to find a church that felt like a good fit.
We first started attending here as a family, with some dear friends during 2020 and the challenging time of Covid and limited in person services. I had three very young preschool aged boys at the time, and even in the unprecedented times, Waumba Land exceeded any expectations about what we were looking for in a church for our family.
Waumba Land would regularly reach out and engage with our kids and family, even going so far as sending crafts and supplies and faith based learning material through the mail for us as a family to use on a regular basis. At that point, I knew we had found our home and that I wanted to be a part of it.
Shortly after services resumed in person I attended an orientation for volunteering opportunities and have never looked back. I have volunteered in the toddler rooms for almost 3 years, as well as during the week working with the Waumba Land curriculum team.
My life has been enriched in countless unexpected ways through the many relationships I have developed with other volunteers, staff members, and children/families that I have met along the way.
It doesn’t matter how tired I feel like I am on Sunday morning, I always look forward to seeing all the kids and other volunteers in my class, week after week. I am so grateful for our church for embracing me and my family, and for showing us what it looks like to lead with love and live as a Jesus follower.
You are Made For More, too. Volunteering in our church is one way you can discover the more you are made for. Ready to find out what you were made for?
