Scripture
Acts 2:4 (NIV)
They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
Galatians 5:22–23 (NIV)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Reflection
The movement of the early church began when the Holy Spirit fell upon the believers and empowered them. At that moment, they all started speaking in tongues, and everyone was astonished that they were hearing uneducated people speaking in their native language all at the same time.
As followers of Christ, we, too, are empowered by the Holy Spirit. We can lean on the Spirit to guide us, convict us, and to lead us into a life that is reflective of Jesus Christ.
Lots of people have received the Spirit, but their lives from the outside show no evidence of him. Fear or our own comfort often keeps us from living a spirit-filled life—but the Holy Spirit empowers us to do God’s work! Living a life with Jesus brings about the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Are you living a spirit-led life? What does it look like in your daily life to rely on the Holy Spirit? Take some time to analyze which fruits of the Spirit are present in your life and which areas of your life you haven’t let the Spirit breathe into yet.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, fill me as you did the early church. Help me hear what you may be asking me to do, and empower me to do it. Today, I let you into every part of my life to bear your fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
In Jesus's name I pray,
Amen.
Church Family Prayer
Heavenly Father, we want you to move. We are hungry and desperate for more of you. Pour your Spirit out over us, our families, our church, and our community.
In Jesus's name I pray,
Amen.
